Mark’s
first film Illumination,
which he wrote, directed and shot, won him the STCVQ Award at Montreal’s
Festival du Jeune Cinéma and was nominated for a Golden Sheaf award
at Yorkton. Curtains,
which he co-directed with his sister Stephanie and also shot, got 5 nominations
(including cinematography) and 3 awards (including the Norman Jewison
Award for direction) at Yorkton. Curtains was invited to over 25 other
festivals, including Montreal’s Festival des Films du Monde, Toronto’s
International Film Festival, the National Screen Institute’s Local
Heroes and Mannheim-Heidelberg’s Official Competition. It also earned
a 1996 Genie Award nomination.
Mark has been a resident at the Banff Centre for the Arts and the Canadian Film Centre. A collaboration with writer/producer Denis McGrath, Shooter was awarded an OFDC Calling Card grant and selected for Montreal’s Festival des Films du Monde, the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Rhode Island International Film Festival and WorldFest Houston, where it won a Bronze in the Best Live Action Narrative category. Most recently, Je fonds en comble, a BravoFact collaboration with choreographer/co-director Justine Ricard, has started its festival circuit.
